Academic Resources

Special Education

At John Eaton, we celebrate the uniqueness of our individual learners as well as the dedication and commitment of our parents. We recognize that some students have special learning needs that require an individualized educational program with additional supports in order for them to maximize their potential. Eaton offers a wide range of services and supports to meet the needs of our special learners.

We utilize a multi-disciplinary approach where Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Behavioral Support Services are available. Our certified Special Educators work collaboratively with the Classroom Teachers and Service Providers to ensure academic success. Eaton’s Special Education team utilizes a multi-modal approach to teaching and learning that builds on the strengths of each child. We offer both a resource/pull-out setting as well an inclusion model of Special Education where we work side by side with the classroom teachers. Our goal is to facilitate a love for learning that leads to success in both the classroom and the larger community.

Please contact the Eaton SPED coordinator, Ben Bergfalk, with questions about the SPED program and/or your individual student’s learning progress and needs.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

John Eaton provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to Pre –K through 5th grade students. The English language learner’s (ELL) instruction focuses on developing the language needed to succeed in school. We follow English Language Proficiency Standards to ensure that students acquire content specific language. The standards require that students communicate for social and instructional purposes, and communicate information, ideas and concepts in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each English Language Proficiency Standard includes the four language domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students are assessed on the standards using the ACCESS for ELLs assessment at the end of the school year.
It is our goal to help the ESL student reach proficiency in meeting grade-level expectations. In order to reach these goals, we provide either inclusion or pull-out content-based instruction. Lessons are in small groups, thereby increasing the attention each student receives. In addition, the ESL team collaborates with general education teachers regularly to ensure that general education classroom environments support ELLs.

The Eaton ESL teacher team is a resource for you. Please feel free to contact us regarding the ESL program and/or your individual student’s learning progress and needs.
