Admission Requirements
All students at John Eaton are placed appropriately according to age and academic achievement. Students entering pre-kindergarden must be four years old on or before September 30th of the year they begin school. Children entering kindergarten must be five on or before September 30th of the year they begin school. To enroll your child, please contact Eaton’s Registrar, Patricia Berman.
The District of Columbia Public Schools require three proof of residency documents, in addition to other documents at the time of registration. Please present the following when you come to register your child:
- Proof of birth date (birth certificate or passport)
- Record of Immunization (There are new requirements that must be met. Specifics can be obtained in the main office.)
- Legal proof of residency (D.C. car registration, utility bill, lease agreement, income tax return, etc.)
- Record of prior school attendance (student transfer sheet, last report card, test scores, etc. from previous school)
Special Permission Process for Out-of-Boundary students
The out of boundary process for new students starts January 28th and ends February 28th of each school year. Out-of-boundary admission is based solely on the lottery and space availability. Parents must complete a separate application for each child they are trying to enroll. Click here to enroll in the lottery now.
Students who are granted out-of-boundary permission have all of the same rights and opportunities as students who live in-boundary. They can continue at Eaton through 5th grade and they will have the right to transition to Deal or Hardy Middle School (parent choice) after successfully completing 5th grade. Students are expected to adhere to the school policy concerning tardiness and attendance. Should you or your child fail to meet these requirements, your special permission authorization will be rescinded and your child will return to his/her neighborhood school
or another school of your choice at the end of the year.
School Enrollment Has Begun!
All returning and new students must register for the current school year by completing enrollment forms and returning them to Eaton’s front office. By now, all current students returning to Eaton next year should have received their school enrollment packet in the mail. New students can download an enrollment packet by clicking on the link below. In addition, parents must show proof of DC residency. Proof of residency documents include: pay stub with DC address, driver’s license with car registration, TANF documents, an Embassy Letter or a residential lease and utility bill with a DC address.
Eaton’s front office will be open until 6pm every Thursday in April to accept registrations. Please contact Ms. Trish Berman, Eaton’s Registrar, if you have questions or need additional information.
Please enroll as soon as possible. Student enrollment is directly related to school funding and class sizes!
