First-Grade Reading Boosters

“Booster” – one that boosts as an enthusiastic supporter … Merriam-Webster Dictionary

For one afternoon each week, community volunteers meet with first graders for 45 minutes to share books and related activities. Each volunteer is paired with a first grader who is in need of reading practice and serves as that student’s Reading Booster from October through May of the school year. Each Reading Booster meets with the same student each week so that a familiarity, trust, and rapport are developed.

All volunteer Reading Booster must successfully complete a TB test and DCPS fingerprint background check.
