Eaton gets a new playground for school year 2010-2011! For a number of years parents and administrators at the school had grown concerned about the aging playground equipment and neglected landscaping surrounding the school. Parents met to plan an upgrade of the space in time for the school’s Centennial in 2011. In 2008, Mayor Adrian Fenty attended the school’s fall Block Party and saw first hand the situation. Upon talking with the Principal and parents, Mayor Fenty made sure that DCPS began working with parents to achieve their vision of a more active, safe, and green environment for the students and community. By spring of 2010, a fully rehabilitated play area had been achieved including a playing field, basketball court, climbing structures, water fountains, and other elements, surrounding by a walking nature path with an array of native plants, flowers, and trees. The area had been transformed into a safe and useful outdoor activity and learning environment for the school and neighborhood.
