The John Eaton Afterschool Program, Inc. (JEAP) provides childcare for Eaton students before and after school.  The program operates at the John Eaton Elementary School.  Children may come to the Before School Program as early as 7:30 a.m. and may be picked up from the Afterschool Program as late as 6:30 p.m.  JEAP also provides childcare on all DCPS half days as well as during John Eaton HSA meetings.  Drop-in services are available for children who are not enrolled in JEAP on a regular basis.

JEAP is available to children in grades 1 – 5 beginning the first day of school, August 22, 2011.  The program starts on August 29, 2011 for children in pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. To enroll your child, please complete the enrollment agreement  forms, and provide signatures where required.  Note that the Medical Form must be notarized.  Please return the complete package to the JEAP office with September’s tuition.  All forms must be completed and tuition must be paid before your child can attend the program.

JEAP is a play-based program that offers a variety of age-appropriate, creative activities to help the children grow in an atmosphere of support and trust.  Children may participate in arts and crafts, play with board games and manipulatives, engage in dramatic play, read and socialize.  A portion of every afternoon is spent on the playground, weather permitting.  Children participate in gross motor activities that give them a chance to unwind and “let off steam” after the school day.  JEAP also provides healthy snacks and quiet spaces for homework.  Enrichment classes such as piano, French, art, and drama are offered for additional fees.  Sessions are typically 8 weeks and are offered throughout the school year.

JEAP was established in 1983 under the auspices of the John Eaton Elementary School Home and School Association (HSA) and was incorporated as a separate entity in 1998.  The Program is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of parents whose children are enrolled in JEAP.  The Program has a seasoned executive staff.  Director Dietra Rogers has led the Program since 1986 and Assistant Director Freddya Wilkerson has been on staff since 1988.

Because JEAP is a separate administrative entity from John Eaton Elementary School, all communication regarding JEAP attendance, sickness, programming and tuition, etc., is to be made directly to JEAP.  Parents should not call the John Eaton Elementary School office with any messages for JEAP.
