The vision of John Eaton Elementary School is that each student graduate globally competent.
Through an intellectually stimulating curriculum, with an emphasis on Chinese Language, we integrate culture studies across the curriculum connecting through language arts, math, science, physical education, the arts and technology. Cultural study includes community, geography, history, language and current events. We also draw heavily on the international resources available in Washington, DC – the museums, embassies, historic landmarks, businesses, schools, government agencies, communities, and families.
We create an experience that effectively prepares students with the knowledge, skills and values they need to live, collaborate, and communicate in an interconnected world.
In 2009, Eaton was selected to become a DC Catalyst World Cultures school. We have historically celebrated diversity at our school and becoming a World Cultures school has served to enhance the learning and celebration. We have over twenty-four languages represented in the Eaton student population. Students from all over the city and around the world come together to learn from the teachers and each other. We celebrate the richness of our differences and our similarities.
As a World Cultures school, we have incorporated the study of individual countries into the general education curriculum. Students embrace the culture from their country of study. They move across the curriculum from writing, singing, dancing; to reading, computing and researching everything about the country. John Eaton students truly become global citizens who respect and celebrate diversity.
